Projects

Lodestar Team Members have established a reputation for providing vital project support. Examples of projects include:

Underground 345 KV Power Cable Installation from Bethel to Norwalk, CT

Provided safety, environmental and quality assurance services to Northeast Utilities and Burns & McDonnell during installation of an underground power cable system through both rural and urban portions of Connecticut. Personnel attended construction meetings and safety briefings, developed and reviewed job hazard assessments (JHAs), observed all work to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, company Work Rules and EHS Plans, implemented safety management systems and documented all activities in accordance with partner company requirements.

Preparation and Implementation of a Demolition Plan for the Remington Arms Facility in Bridgeport, CT

The 73 acre Remington Arms facility in Bridgeport consisted of buildings and equipment, some dating back to the late 1800s, that had been abandoned since 1988.  Personnel developed a demolition plan for a portion of the facility.  Challenges included significant physical hazards associated with unsafe, dilapidated structures and chemical exposure hazards associated with historical lead use and asbestos.

Installation of Large Diameter Natural Gas Pipelines through Brooklyn and Queens, NY

Provided on-Site Safety support during installation of a 30” diameter underground natural gas pipeline throughout Brooklyn and a 20” pipeline adjacent to LaGuardia Airport in Queens, NY.  Challenges included maintaining awareness and compliance with safety requirements by a work force of more than 100 workers, heavy urban vehicular and pedestrian traffic, overhead movement of large diameter pipe, steel road plates and sheeting/shoring materials in densely populated neighborhoods with overhead utility lines.

Underground 345 KV Power Cable Installation between Norwalk and Stratford, CT

Performed similar support services to those discussed above for the Bethel to Norwalk project.  However, this work was done for United Illuminating and Black & Veach, and took place in densely developed portions of Bridgeport and Stratford.  Personnel provided safety and environmental support in conditions that were made more challenging due to the presence of historical un-mapped utilities, extensive contaminated soil, shallow ground water intrusion, harbor crossings and significant traffic considerations.

Underground Cable Installation in Fairfax, VA

Provided safety, environmental and quality assurance services to Dominion Power and New River Electrical during installation of an underground power cable system through downtown Fairfax, Virginia.

Beacon Falls Conductor Replacement Project

Performed and documented Safety Audits on behalf of Northeast Utilities at substation and overhead line project sites from Oxford to Beacon Falls, Connecticut. Personnel reviewed compliance with requirements related to PPE use, traffic, powered industrial trucks, trench installation, cranes, bucket trucks, excavation equipment, fall protection, cable pulling, hand tools, electrical safety, etc.

Frost Bridge Road

Substation Project

PSE&G Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Installation Projects

Performed and documented Safety Audits on behalf of Northeast Utilities during transformer equipment installation/replacement at the Frost Bridge Road substation in Watertown, Connecticut.

Served as the On-site Safety Officer on behalf of ABB during GIS installation and substation upgrading projects at PSE&G substations in Union City, Hoboken and Bayonne, New Jersey.   These projects were performed with aggressive completion schedules, sometimes requiring 24/7 work schedules.  In addition to traditional electrical construction safety considerations, personnel needed to pay particular attention to potential fatigue and heat stress (during summer months) issues.

Atlantic City Electric Training

Performed monthly safety training for Atlantic City Electric contractors.  Each month, a new topic that was applicable to Atlantic City Electric operations was selected, and a company specific program was prepared and presented.
